| Childhood is the beginning
opportunity for a lifelong pilgrimage
in Jesus Christ. Childhood is a time of
rapid growth in many areas. We desire
to weave the thread of spiritual growth
into the expanding fabric of a child's
unfolding world. Our task is to supplement
the family and it's primary role as chief
cultivator in a child's development.
Christ understood the dispositions of
children. When Jesus called children,
they gave Him their trust (Matthew 18);
when children were brought to Jesus, they
gave Him their love (Matthew 19); when
children were aware of His presence, they
gave Him their worship (Matthew 21). Jesus
wisely decided to reveal Himself in such
a manner that children could respond to
Him as children, free from undue pressure
or persuasion!
We desire to demonstrate to children
of all ages that a relationship with Jesus
Christ is not a remote option which can
be added into one's life at a later point
in time, but that it is an essential part
of even a very young person's life. We
want children to have the opportunity
to begin a spiritually abundant life at
an early age, to live daily in grateful
dependence upon the Lord God, and to learn
what it means to glorify God and enjoy
His presence forever.

Fifth Grade Communicant-Confirmation
Class
It is our desire that all of our Fifth graders be taught the basics of our faith and be given an opportunity to make a profession of faith confirming their baptism as infants. For this reason, a Communicant-Confirmation class will be meeting during the Sunday School hour in the second semester of the academic year. This will be part of the normal curriculum for all Fifth graders. A letter with more details about the class will be mailed to all the parents of Fifth graders. If you would like more information, please contact Rev. Tim Leslie at 672-0336.

GOING and… “Growing in the knowledge of God”
Fifth graders! Come join us this fall on Route 56, the road from 5th to 6th Grade.
We will be going and growing in the knowledge of God as we fellowship, study, and go out in our community to share the love of Christ. Look for the special Route 56 logo in your mailbox this fall so that you will not miss out on any of our exciting “road trips.” |
Our plans include service projects with Triune Mercy Center, Upstate Circle of Friends, and Miracle Hill. These projects will be an opportunity for our 5th graders and their families to be the hands and feet of Christ in our community.
Our annual Christmas progressive dinner will be in December, and we will have many other fellowship opportunities in the fall and spring. You will not want to miss out as we travel down Route 56!

It’s time to “JOIN THE TEAM !”
Which position are YOU going to play on the First Pres Children’s Ministry Team?
This year we want YOU on our winning team. We need YOU to help us reach our goal of winning children’s souls for Jesus. Here are the team positions.
| • |
Head Coach—GOD! With God as our leader, there is no way that we will lose. We’re guaranteed to win! |
| • |
Coaching Staff—Every winning team has a supportive coach behind it. The Children’s Ministry Team will fill this position. Our job is to encourage and to provide training, resources, and anything else that will help you complete your plays. |
| • |
Quarterback—This position requires someone who is willing to call the plays. The quarterback will be a lead teacher. You are responsible for preparing your lesson for the Sundays that you teach. |
| • |
Center—The quarterback cannot do his job without a good center. You are responsible for being in your class on the Sundays that your quarterback is teaching. You are there to help and support. |
| • |
Offensive Linemen—The offensive linemen will be running the nursery. The OL are the ones who protect the quarterback. In this position you will be responsible for showing up once a month to take care of our littlest ones. You will rock, feed, and play with the kids, but as an OL you will also be charged with protecting them. |
| • |
Receivers—These players get the ball from the quarterback and run with it. These are our Chapel and Extended Session workers. Your job will be to supplement what the children have learned in Sunday school. You take them to chapel and then help them with a craft to reinforce the lesson. It is a once-a-month commitment on Sundays from 10:45am to 12:15pm. |
| • |
Defensive Backs—These players are very versatile. They try to keep the other team from scoring and also try to steal the ball. This position is for someone who would rather serve on Wednesday nights. You will be responsible for teaching the children and helping to keep Satan from scoring. These players are extremely important in helping the team win the game. |
| • |
Special Teams—Without the Special Teams there would really be no game. This position is for someone who might not be able to come in on a regular basis but is willing to do things as needed. This is the player who makes it possible for all of the programs to run smoothly. |
| • |
Cheerleaders—All great teams have a great cheerleading squad. Our cheerleaders are responsible for being in the classrooms in time to greet the children and to help them feel comfortable. This position requires being in the classroom for only the first 15 minutes of the day. |
| • |
Assistant Coach—These people are invaluable to the Head Coach. They are our music leaders and WOW leaders.
For a football team to be successful and make it to the playoffs, it takes commitment from every player. It is no different with our team. As your coaches, we will always be there to support you. |
The rewards of being a part of our team are many: a signing bonus, pep rallies, training opportunities, and most importantly, the opportunity to play on the Lord’s team and be a part of helping children reach “The Goal.”
Are you willing to make the commitment and become a part
of our team? If so, please contact one of our Children's Ministry Team Leaders: Evelyn Penkert (672-1843), Laura Black (672-0337), Tina Jones (672-0347), Karen King (672-1840).
