COMMON THREAD MEN'S MINISTRY

"… As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another…" Proverbs 27:17

The First Presbyterian Church Men’s Ministry falls under the title of "Common Thread" with the idea being that while men's lives are very busy with family work, and activities, we all share one common thread: to grow in love and likeness to Jesus Christ.

VISION:
The "Common Thread" that unites us all is Jesus Christ and our desire to grow in our knowledge and practice of His disciplines, so that His love and His grace are most prevalent in our homes.

MISSION:
As disciples of Jesus Christ we desire to grow by studying Jesus Christ…to be held accountable by other Christ-like men…to be pruned so that we are becoming the men God wants us to be…so we are able to lead our families as God intends.

GROWTH AND TRAINING:
Common Thread offers events to stimulate growth and training including

  • Yearly weekend conference: The Cove, March 2nd & 3rd, 2012 featuring
Dr. Richard Gibbons teaching on ‘Men's Impact Weekend"’.  Cost for three meals, overnight stay and use of The Cove (Billy Graham Training Center in Ashville, NC) facilities will be $180.  Register with Dana Smith at 234.0496.
  • Weekend Seminars
  • Banquets and Festivals
  • Men/Children Camping Weekends
  • Modern Day Knight Classes (a course on how dads can be more effective in raising our sons)
  • Sportsman Banquet: Held each spring for men interested in game and fishing
  • Wednesday Advantage Classes
  • Small Groups: Call Bob Jones at 672-0349 for information on how to join one of our many small groups.  Also see film in right hand column.
  • Men's Fraternity: See below

GOAL:
Our goal is to point men toward Jesus so that we are better equipped and trained to be the spiritual leaders of our families.

MEN'S FRATERNITY
The Men’s Fraternity is composed of a group of men who meet on the first Wednesday of each month for dinner together and on the other Wednesday’s meet for learning and fellowship and accountability.  This semester the men will be studying John Eldredge’s DVD, “FATHERED BY GOD”.  The series will lead men through the six stages a man goes through as he matures in life and faith, sharing insights and teachings on how each stage can be encounted and supported.  Each session is about twenty-five minutes long followed by discussion led by a class facilitator.  The class meets from 6:13 until 7:30pm in room 301-302.

Contact Bob Jones at 672.0349 or bjones@firstpresgreenville.org for more information.

FOR RETIRED MEN

Retired men of the church and community are invited to a luncheon meeting the first and third Thursdays of each month at Coffee Underground from 12:00-1:15pm. Our meetings center around the topic of retirement and how it affects our lives. Come for great food and fellowship as well! Call Charlotte Joye at 864-672-0309 to reserve a spot.

Call Bob Jones (672-0349) for information or just come on the first and third Thursday’s to the Coffee Underground (the downstairs room) at 1 East Coffee Street, downtown.
