CONGREGATIONAL MEETING AND RECEPTION
Our Session has called a Congregational Meeting for Sunday, October 1, at 10:30am in the Sanctuary, for the purpose of dissolving Rev. Dr. Phil Hargrove’s call at First Pres and expressing our appreciation for his nine years of ministry here. After the 11:00am service that day, you are invited to a reception for Phil and his family in the Parlor.

PERSPECTIVES COURSE BEGINS IN JANUARY
Perspectives is the premier course in North America on cross-cultural missions. In 2018, a class will be held for the Greenville area at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church (January–April). The first meeting will be on January 11, 2018, 6:00–9:00pm, and the first two weeks are free! Children’s Ministries, Tina Jones
SERVE FOSTER FAMILIES ON OCTOBER 14
On Saturday, October 14, foster families will be attending a free breakfast and training at First Pres. We expect 280 children, so we urgently need 40 volunteers to provide childcare for infants, and to play games and do crafts with preschool and elementary age children 9:30–11:45am. NEXT STEPHEN MINISTRY TRAINING TO BEGIN

Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one lay caring ministry that provides high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to people who are hurting. Training in a variety of topics, such as listening, Christian assertiveness, and maintaining caregiving boundaries, is distinctively Christian and focuses on God as the one who cures as we care. Classes begin Wednesday, October 11. BE INSPIRED BY ESPERANZA SEPTEMBER 27
You’re invited to a meeting with Esperanza International on Wednesday, September 27, at 6:15pm in Room 306. Esperanza, which means “hope” in Spanish, is the micro-lending organization our church has partnered with in the Dominican Republic (esperanza.org), using the principles from the Nobel-prize-winning book Banker to the Poor by Muhammad Yunus to great effect in the DR. UNITED MINISTRIES OPPORTUNITY

United Ministries, a First Pres Missions partner, has a home for Interfaith Hospitality families that needs to have its interior painted. This three-bedroom, one-bath house needs to be painted by the end of September if possible. United Ministries will provide the paint and supplies. 500th ANNIVERSARY REFORMATION CONCERT
In partnership with North Greenville University, we will celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation with a free concert on Friday, October 20, at 7:00pm in our Sanctuary. With combined choirs and orchestra, over 150 people will lead in a time of singing great hymns of our faith. Plan to join us!

Senior Adult Ministry, Stan Johnson

WIT & WISDOM OCTOBER 3
At Wit & Wisdom on Tuesday, October 3, we will welcome speaker Mr. Bill Fitzpatrick, an author, photographer, and adventurer who will share some of his adventures at South Carolina landmarks from the mountains to the sea. The free program for ages 55 and up begins at 11:30am in Fellowship Hall, with lunch ($7) at 12:30pm.
