Overview
Our Mission
To cultivate women into a deeper relationship
with Jesus Christ through Bible study, prayer,
discipleship, and fellowship, so that we
may serve the Lord in our personal lives,
our church, our community, our world.
The
Women’s Ministry of First Presbyterian
Church offers opportunities for women
to STUDY, to PRAY, to FELLOWSHIP, and
to SERVE at First Presbyterian Church.
We encourage new members and women who
are not actively involved in these opportunities
to join other women at First Presbyterian
Church in growing spiritually, enjoying
fellowship, and serving our Lord in the
ways that best fit your needs, time, gifts,
and talents.
There's A Group For You!
If you’ve never experienced women’s Bible study or if you have been involved in women’s Bible study for years, there’s a group for you. Grab your Bible and come for a fabulous time of caring fellowship and intimate study of God’s Word.
For more information about the weekly studies, call Jean Nickell at 297-9355. If you have questions about the monthly studies, call Barbara Hanner at 288-6732.

Summer Bible Studies
Monthly:
Women’s Roles in the Church
Rev. Brian Stewart will tackle a timely, relevant, and often controversial
subject: Women’s Roles in the Church. All Christians want to work in
their Lord’s kingdom, but knowing biblically sanctioned ways to do so
has often been confusing for women. Rev. Stewart says, “ We’ll discover a
number of surprising insights from the Word of God as we learn about some
of the critical roles women played in the development of the early Christian
movement.” Childcare is available at the 10:30am studies only. The
morning sessions will also feature special music by Sally MacArthur, one
of First Pres’s noted musicians. Invite your friends each month for these
compelling lessons!

Weekly
The Screwtape Letters
“A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened
readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life from
the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to “Our Father
Below.” At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original,
C. S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly-wise old devil to his
nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation
of an ordinary young man. The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging and
humorous account of temptation—and triumph over it—ever written.”
Purchase the book in The Vineyard for $13.99.
Every Thursday beginning June 24
9:30–11:00am in Room 316

Women's Ministry Monthly Bible Study Groups
2010-2011
Circles/Monthly Bible Studies meet from September through May of each year.
This September, the Circles will be studying...
The Cross
by John Stott
This year's study will answer many questions concerning the need for the cross and its meaning for our lives as evangelical Christians. According to Stott, "the cross transforms everything... [giving] us a new, worshiping relationship to God; a new and balanced understanding of ourselves; a new incentive to give ourselves in mission; a new love for our enemies, and a new courage to face the perplexities of suffering." A tall order, one thinks, but scripture affirms all of the above plus more in its presentation of the cross. Stott uses scripture to look at not only the atoning aspects of the cross but also the forgiveness of sin, satisfaction, and substitution as well as the three great achievements of the cross: saving sinners, revealing God, and conquering evil. Stott says, "Far from offering us flattery, the cross undermines our self-righteousness. We can stand before it only with a bowed head and a broken spirit. And there we remain until the Lord Jesus speaks to our hearts his word of pardon and acceptance; and we, gripped by his love and full of thanksgiving, go out into the world to live our lives in his service."
Come and join with sisters in Christ as we contemplate a study that elevates the cross's importance from being simply a Christian symbol with empty meaning to being the central symbol of "the very heart of the gospel." Perhaps you feel you know all about its importance, but knowing more and knowing more deeply is every believer's goal. As Paul says in Galatians 6:14, "God forbid that I should boast of anything but the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ."
Choose a day/time/location from the roster below and become part of what could be one of your most meaningful church activities. God promised to honor with new knowledge and saving grace those who seek Him.
Contact Evelyn Smith (244-7045) or Barbara Hanner (582-5333) to be added to the group that works best for your life and schedule.
Child care is provided for most studies at the church. Reservations should be arranged with Evelyn Penkert (epenkert@firstpresgreenville.org or 235-0496) before one attends.
