A community-wide prayer service will be held on this year’s National Day of Prayer, Thursday, May 4th, at First Presbyterian Church, 200 W. Washington Street, in downtown Greenville. Upstate Alive will be sponsoring the event which begins at 12:00 noon in the church’s sanctuary. Major James Windley will lead the congregation in prayer at noon and nine church and community leaders will pray individually for our city, state, and nation. Singer-songwriter Stephen Eager will provide a 30-minute prelude at 11:30am and Rev. Tom Barrett, Music and Worship Arts Director at First Presbyterian Church, will lead a community choir and orchestra.
This year’s theme is For Your Great Name’s Sake! Hear Us... Forgive Us...Heal Us! Taken from Daniel 9:19, which says, “O Lord, Listen! O Lord, Forgive! O Lord, Hear and Act! For Your Sake, O My God...”. As the National Day of Prayer on May 4th approaches, thousands of individuals, churches, and communities will be working to rally millions of Christian’s to once again heed this call.
