Welcome to First Presbyterian Church! We are so glad you are considering visiting our church in beautiful downtown Greenville, South Carolina. Attending a new church for the first time can be intimidating, and we want you to feel welcomed from the minute you walk into our church home, even if you’ve never been to church before or it’s been a while since you were in worship.
Guidelines and protocols are in place to help protect the health and safety of the congregation, guests, and church staff. Before attending, please read the guidelines by clicking HERE. Worship services are live-streamed for anyone who cannot attend. Please click the Media menu for more details.
Traditional Worship is held in the Sanctuary at 8:30am and 11:00am.
The Ignite Modern Worship service is held in Fellowship Hall at 10:45am.
At our traditional worship services, you will encounter passionate musicians and singers leading us in worship. The services have excellent hymnody alongside inspiring choral, orchestral, and organ music. Each week our music staff and pastors plan and organize services in a way that brings honor and glory to God, and invites congregants to encounter God in new ways through musical worship, scripture reading, biblical sermons, and moments of prayer.
Our Ignite service invites worshipers to grow and engage in their relationship with God in a modern setting. Our music staff and pastors plan a service that holds reverence and sacredness, but also has a contemporary feel. The Ignite band plays both ancient hymns and modern songs, all of which bring glory and honor to God. Worshipers are invited to actively participate through hymns and songs, Scripture reading, prayer, and a sermon.
Where do My Kids Go?
Sunday Morning Nursery Care (Newborn – 2)
During the 8:30am service, nursery/preschool for aged newborn–2 is available beginning at 8:15am in the Tucker-Dean Nursery on the first floor of the Education Building.
Sunday Morning Worship Options for Children (2 – first grade)
Children of all ages are always welcome to join parents during worship services! Children are an essential part of the church family and we’d rather create a warm, welcoming environment where the church family is being loved and worshipping together than have a perfectly calm and quiet worship service.
During the 10:45 and 11:00am services, a nursery is available for babies up to 23 months. Children’s programming is offered for K2–K4.
K5–2nd grade children will join their families for at least the worship portion of the service and have the option to register for Kids Church during the sermon portion. 3rd–5th grade children will attend the full service with their family.

What’s different about worship now given the COVID-19 pandemic?
First Pres is following the CDC’s recommendations for places of worship to keep our congregation and visitors safe during this time. Please view the full list of guidelines and protocols here (link) before attending.
Where do I park?
Our church is located in downtown Greenville at 200 West Washington Street. There are several parking areas, including visitor parking and handicapped parking. The Main parking lot is off Richardson Street and you may enter through the doors under the Portico. This lot is where visitor parking and handicapped parking areas are located. Across Washington Street from the Sanctuary is a larger parking lot. The Richardson Street Parking Garage is located directly across from the church’s Christian Life Center and currently offers free parking on Sundays. The City of Greenville Police Department assists with crossing Richardson and Washington Streets on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
Where do I go once I’m inside the building?
First Presbyterian has a large downtown campus, and we know that it can seem a little intimidating to a first-time visitor! On Sundays, volunteer greeters are at every entrance and will help direct you to where you need to go. Please ask them for help--they are happy to assist you.
The Sanctuary can be accessed from outside the building or from the Christian Life Center.
The main entrance for the Ignite service is located in Fellowship Hall on the first floor of the Christian Life Center, adjacent to the courtyard/playground and the Education Building. You may also enter through the portico doors and use the elevator or stairs.
What should I wear?
Wear what makes you feel most comfortable! You’ll see a mix of styles at First Pres. The Ignite service tends to be a little more casual, whereas the traditional services are a bit more formal. The most important thing is that you are present in mind and body and are ready to worship God with our church family.
Where should I sit?
There are no assigned seats – please feel free to sit wherever you’d like! (But please remember to give other worshippers and families enough space to social distance.)
Do I have to give during the offering?
This is entirely up to you! The money given during the offering helps support our mission, ministries, and operations.
What Sunday School classes are available?
We have Sunday School classes for all ages and stages of life! At First Presbyterian, we call them ‘Sunday Life Groups’, and they are a great way to make deeper connections with others in a similar phase of life and to learn to live with God’s Word shaping us as disciples.
