At First Presbyterian Church, our love for Christ is exemplified in our care for our congregation and community. We offer various ministries to support members and friends during times of special need.
One of our pastors is on call every day, 24 hours a day. The Pastor of the Day can be reached during normal office hours by calling the church at 235.0496 and asking for the Pastor of the Day. After hours contact can be made by calling the Church main number, 235.0496, and then pressing "2" for Pastor of the Day information. Pastors are generally available for short term counseling on an individual basis by contacting the Pastors individually.
In the event of the death of a loved one, First Presbyterian Church strives to serve members and their families with compassion and understanding. During business hours (Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm), contact Lynn Johnson, 672.0326, to notify her of the death. After office hours and on weekends, call the Pastor of the Day (235-0496; choose option 2).
Our Pastors are scheduled to visit the hospitals every day and the nursing homes every week. Homebound members are visited quarterly and offered Communion. If you are scheduled to go into a hospital or nursing home, or if you are homebound and can't get to church, please contact the church so we will be sure to provide ongoing pastoral care.
One of the main objectives of the First Presbyterian Church mission statement is “We will love others through service after the example of Christ.” The goal of the Turner Memorial Fund is to help any member or family who is in a financial crisis and has no other place to turn. The fund is named in memory of Dr. Fred P. Turner, a former pastor, who was instrumental in helping to meet the financial needs of individuals and families in emergency situations.
The funds for this ministry are solely dependent upon member contributions. The Turner Memorial Fund Committee, a sub-committee of the Congregational Care Ministry, reviews each request and determines how the funds are distributed. Contributions are needed and greatly appreciated.
